You will find this theme throughout my work: adamance that I will claim myself. Kaitlyn Michaux insists upon embodiment. It is turtles all the way down of boxes I place myself in; a Russian nesting doll of identities. My work explores the endless desire for there to be no walls to bang my fists against. Yet, I find a way to revel in each new self-imposed and imagined cage. I romanticize these battles through my art, not to beautify suffering but because I enjoy toiling through my own self-discovery. I am not a masochist. I want to See myself.

I want you to feel me as I am.

Selected Paintings

The Belladonna series is an ongoing exploration of emotional consummation through color and form. My canvases are often adorned with embellishments or taglines meant to convey richness of inner worlds and delicate contradiction with the density of reality.
